Departmental Profile

Maharani Kasiswari College, established in 1964, is an undergraduate women’s college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It offers undergraduate courses in science, arts and commerce. It is affiliated with the University of Calcutta. The Department of Education of Maharani Kasiswari College started in the year 1964 as a General Subject and introduced Education as an Honours subject in 1974. After Bengali and English, there is a demand amongst student for its future prospect. At present there are 65 sanctioned seats for Honours and 250 approx. for General course. Now the Department has four full-time teachers and three State Aided College Teachers (SACT).

The Department has produced innumerable students both Honours and General throughout the years. Many students of the Department have established themselves in various sectors, especially as accomplished teachers in various H.S. Schools and Degree Colleges, and keep in touch with the Department as Alumni. Many of the students secured the highest marks in the Honours papers in the final university examination and were awarded medals by the College as recognition. Besides teaching, the Department organizes class-wise seminars, and debates, and prepares students for Quiz competitions and Group discussions so that they can keep pace with the time. The students can express their views independently through their writing in the wall Magazine and teachers guide them properly in this regard. Above all, the faculty members are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campus when required. Consequently, students get through the final examination with flying colours every year and go for further higher studies.
